Happy National Poetry Week!

Come one, come all,
Take a seat for a bit;
While I share a few tales
Of local poets.

I promise not to fill your time with only rhymes.
For that would be a crime!

And I promise to try hard to not be a bard,
By sprinkling in
The occasional postcard.

Join on a spur to
Listen to poems never before heard.
And when all is said and done,
I hope you will share what you've learned.

Join Beaufort District Collection research assistant Sydney Whiteside as she shares her favorite poems and postcards from both the BDC's library and archival collections. Learn about the lives of local poets; listen to their poems and watch their words come to life like never before through complementary postcards.

Doors open at 10:30 AM.

Speaker Bio: The BDC's Library Assistant, Sydney Whiteside, graduated from American Military University with an Associate of Arts in Communication with a concentration in Human Resources. Sydney began working for the BDC in November of 2024 and has loved every moment since. With five years of customer service experience and a long-lived appreciation for genealogy and history, she is able to effectively assist patrons on their research journey. She plans to continue her education in the near future, but for now, she is building upon her customer service and research skills while learning (and loving) the importance of preservation.
